With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Eileen Fitzsimmons, a resident of Streetsboro, Ohio, who died peacefully in her sleep on August 15, 2025 due to complications from chronic health conditions.
She was preceded in death by her parents Cecil and Patricia Fitzsimmons, and her beloved nephews Jake and Zach Thompson. She is survived by her sisters Lynn (Victor “Tim”) Thompson, Anita (Erick) Hobbs, Brenda (Dan) Sobieck and her nieces Heather Hobbs, Hilary Hobbs, and Taylor Sobieck.
Eileen was born on June 27, 1952 in Fort Belvoir, VA and spent most of her childhood in East Palestine and Louisville, Ohio. She graduated from the University of Akron with a BA in Clothing and Textiles, and retired after a successful career in retail as a merchandise planner. Two of her favorite employers were Higbee’s (Cleveland) and Dots (Solon) where she formed many close friendships.
Eileen cherished her family and was particularly proud of her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed attending their sporting events and musical performances. An avid sports enthusiast, Eileen treasured the memories she created with close friends at the ballpark cheering on her favorite team, the Cleveland Guardians. She was also a fan of the Cavs and sometimes the Browns.
After retirement Eileen discovered her passion for community service. She volunteered as a member of the Streetsboro Parks, Recreation and Conservation Advisory Board (PRCAC) for over 10 years. She was a member of the Portage Park District Foundation Environmental Dinner Steering Committee, board member of Friends of the Pierce Streetsboro Library, tax aid for AARP and both board director and author of the newsletter for the Hickory Ridge community. Notably, Eileen proudly founded the Friends of the Streetsboro Parks where she tirelessly worked to preserve a local park. Eileen was honored to be a recipient of the Portage Parks District Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022.
A memorial service will be held at Trail Lake Park in Streetsboro, Ohio on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at 1:00pm. All are welcome to attend. To honor Eileen's love of the Streetsboro parks, please consider donating towards the planting of a tree and the installment of a park bench in her memory.
