Pearl M. Smith went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Born Pearl Myra Baker daughter of late Anthony Baker Sr. and Mary Baker on December 24, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, Sr. Anthony and Mary Baker; her son, Ronald; her sister, Gloria; and brothers Anthony Jr. & John. She leaves to cherish her memory her sister Annette Baker and children, Michael “Anthony”, Tyrone, Mary, Voncile, Andrew, Levesta, Myjawn, Jason, Christopher, and Monika; as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind countless relatives, friends, and loved ones who were blessed to know her.
Pearl was a phenomenal woman of God whose life was a testament to love, faith, service, and compassion. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Also, she has always naturally been a mother figure to many whose lives she touched.
Pearl was a longtime member and dedicated worker with The Salvation Army. During her years in Wooster, Ohio, she served as the lead cook at the Salvation Army Shelter, where she cared for others not only through her work but also through the warmth and kindness she shared.
Pearl found joy in the simple things. She loved reading books, especially a good romance. She found joy in game shows like The Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and Family Feud, doing puzzles, spending time with family and friends, whether playing card games like Skip-Bo, Uno, or spades, or in celebrations at the house or dining out. She loved a good steakhouse or an authentic barbecue place. She loved listening to gospel and Christian music. Those closest to her would hear her singing or humming a song from time to time—a small reminder of the joy and faith she carried with her.
In her later life, she was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Pearl fought with courage and faith, always putting God first. Her faith remained an important part of her life, and she now rests in the eternal peace of the Lord she loved.
Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
Pearl requested cremation. A celebration of life is scheduled for a later date. Please see granddaughter Annette Smith for those details.
Pearl M. Smith's life was a gift, her love was felt by many, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
